Hello Teacher Candidates,
The Ontario Alliance of Black School Educators (ONABSE) is hosting its annual conference virtually:
Empowering Educational Excellence through Equity
Friday, April 23 and Saturday, April 24, 2021
This year, in addition to workshops led by educators from across Ontario, ONABSE has included two workshops presented by and for Faculty of Education students (New Teacher champions):
- Workshop #1: Disrupting anti-black racism in your teaching practices: a critical look at the hidden messages in the text, film and other resources;
- Workshop #2: CRRP: Curriculum connections and examples that create Mirrors, Windows and Revolving/ Sliding doors: taking a look at, and reflecting black students’ culture as we work to build their identity.
Western’s Faculty of Education has the opportunity to sponsor current Teacher Candidates (Year 1 or 2) to attend both days of the event.
If you would like to apply to be sponsored, please fill out this form as soon as possible:
We are working with the ONABSE on next steps and total number of sponsored students, and will update this post with more information as it’s confirmed.
UPDATE APR12/21 8:30AM: Applications will be reviewed as they are received, and applicants responded to within 2 business days of applying. Applications will be accepted until April 20, 2021, or until all sponsorships are awarded, whichever comes first.
(Teacher Candidates can also register directly for the conference – Student Tickets are approximately $60 for the full conference of $30 for one day)
