Reminder: End of Year Survey

Hello Teacher Candidates,

The Teacher Education Office is proud of your hard work and flexibility this year! It has been a challenging one, but your patience and feedback throughout has been so appreciated.

As we look forward, we’re eager to hear more about your experiences and how they can inform our planning for 2021-22. Please consider completing our:

BEd End of Year Survey

This anonymous survey will take between 10-20 minutes to complete. Respondents will have the opportunity to enter a draw to win one of 20 $10 Tim Hortons gift certificates.

End of Year Reminders:

Please review the reminders below and be sure to complete any action items before the indicated deadlines:

Year 1 Reminders

Alternative Field Experience (AFE): Teacher Candidates are strongly encouraged to complete as much of their 210 AFE hours as they can before September 2021. We are planning for you to have three Practicum blocks in 2021-22. With the ongoing uncertainty surrounding pandemic-related school placements, having the AFE completed in advance will allow you to have a lighter, more flexible Year 2.

Year 2 Academic Calendar: The BEd Year 2 Academic Calendar for 2021-2022 is now available. We will plan all courses and placements around this calendar. In the case of pandemic-related closures of K-12 schools, it’s possible Practicum start- and end-dates may need to be tweaked.

Year 2 Reminders

Apply to Graduate: the Registrar’s Office has provided directions on how to apply to graduate from the Bachelor of Education. You must complete this process even if you don’t plan to participate in any convocation ceremonies. Be sure to apply by the April 30 deadline, even if you will be finishing up program requirements in May.

OCT Temporary Certificate: Year 2 Teacher Candidates can now apply for the OCT’s Temporary Certificate. Be sure to review our process information and submit all required information to both the OCT and Teacher Education Office in a timely manner. Please note that we are unable to submit your Faculty Report until all items outlined in our eligibility requirements have been received.

OCT Certification: whether you apply for the Temporary Certificate or not, you will still want to start the regular OCT Certification application. This can be started anytime.

Math Proficiency Test (MPT): We recently reached out to the Ministry of Education again to request an update and can confirm that, at this time, there are no MPT updates or test dates scheduled. As soon as we have more information we will let you know.

Alternative Field Experience (AFE): All 210 AFE hours must be completed and reported on by May 20, 2021. If you anticipate having trouble meeting that deadline, please connect with

Additional Qualifications: Teacher Candidates who have successfully completed their pre-service teacher education program can enroll in Additional Qualifications (AQs), as long as they meet all admission prerequisites.

Year 1 & 2 Reminders

Associate Teacher/AFE Supervisor Awards: Do any of your 2020-21 placement hosts deserve some extra recognition? Consider nominating them for an AT or AFE Supervisor “Award for Excellence”. Nominations are due by May 20.

Western Co-Curricular Record (WCCR): we have manually added most 2020-21 T2P sessions to Teacher Candidates' WCCRs . If you plan to make use of your (optional) WCCR, please review your WCCR and add any sessions that are missing before April 30, 2021.

Virtual Career Expo: the BEd Virtual Career Expo will be available until the end of Term 2. We will continue to add and update Employer Displays so check back regularly.

Job Postings: we often receive job opportunities throughout the spring/summer and will continue to post these to “Follow” the site to be notified of new posts.

Office Hours: the Teacher Education Office is closed Friday, April 2, 2021 and reopens Monday, April 5, 2021. We remain open (virtually) throughout the spring and summer. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have questions.

Have a wonderful long weekend,

The Teacher Education Office
