How Do Teachers Develop Inclusive Practice – Invitation to Year 2 Teacher Candidates
My name is Dr. Jacqueline Specht and I am a Professor at the Faculty of Education at The University of Western Ontario. I am the director of the Canadian Research Centre on Inclusive Education and we are currently conducting research into preservice teachers’ inclusive education practices in Canadian classrooms.
The purpose of this study is to explore the self-efficacy, beliefs, and instructional practices of beginning teachers identifying the factors that shape their development over time and in the context of their initial teaching experiences.
If you agree to participate in this study you will be asked to meet with the researchers in a group session with other participants to sort statements that people have provided to us in interviews related to experiences that have influenced their practice of teaching in inclusive classrooms. You will be provided with approximately 100 statements, asked to sort them into categories that make sense to you and then rate them on how important you think these statements are to the development of inclusive practice. The entire process will take about 90 minutes.
Participation in this study is voluntary. You may refuse to participate, refuse to answer any questions or withdraw from the study at any time with no effect on your future academic status or employment. All data collected will remain confidential. For participating, you will receive a $25 gift card from Starbucks per session. You will be provided pizza and beverages to enjoy while you participate in the session.
If you would like to participate in this study, or have any questions, please email me at email@example.com. Let me know if you can attend one or both of these sessions in the Community Room 1139 from 12:30 to 2:00
- Monday January 21
- Monday February 4
