Navigating those Difficult Conversations – 4:00 to 5:00 pm | Webinar (optional)
Hosted by the Ministry of Education. Long-term occasional teachers, daily supply teachers and permanent teachers, may find themselves in situations and conversation with students, parents, and colleagues that test their confidence as professionals. Using the Ministry of Education’s resource, Ideas Into Action -Exploring the Social Personal Leadership Resources: Perceiving Emotions. Managing Emotions, & Acting in Emotionally Appropriate Ways, educators will expand their professional toolkit with researched-based strategies. These strategies are foundational to effective leadership and will assist them to build and strengthen their relationships with students, parents, colleagues, administrators, support staff and community members. Such internal resources revolve around relationship-building, and include one’s ability not only to be perceptive and empathetic in working with others, but also to be competent in managing one’s own emotional responses. Growing out of Daniel Goleman’s emotional intelligence work the Ministry has identified ten strategies for success.
