Hello Year 2 Teacher Candidates,
This is a reminder that the first Alternative Field Experience (AFE) Proposal is due September 30, 2017. AFE 1 runs from November 27 to December 15, 2017 and is a full-time, non-practicum experience.
Your first AFE must relate to your Specialty. You will be building on the experience, the proposal and the final report in your Term 2 Specialty Courses. Beyond that requirement, your AFE possibilities are very broad. Consider non-traditional classrooms, community organizations, non-profits, health care facilities, museums and government organizations. For tips and instructions on planning the AFE, click here.
In addition to the practical specialty-related experience, the AFE is also designed to provide a safe space to practice job hunting and networking skills. Teacher Candidates are expected arrange their own AFE’s.
Already submitted the AFE Proposal? Once an AFE Proposal is submitted it will have an initial review before going to the Specialty Coordinator for final review. Teacher Candidates will be notified as soon as the proposal is approved (typically 2-3 weeks).
Interested in international travel? We are currently planning Faculty-arranged international opportunities for AFE 2 (April 2018). Details will be posted as they’re finalized, typically November-December.
