Professional Friday – Sept. 20th

Sept. 20: Boundary Issues for Teachers (Please come early, with your Student IDs,  to avoid lineups as as we begin the use of swipe machines. Also – a “Certificate of Attendance” will be provided at the end of the day)

  • 9:15 – 9:30 – Meet your Student Council  (Pay attention – there will be prizes)
  • 9:30 -10:00 – Opening remarks. Bill Tucker, Associate Professor, former Director of the Thames Valley District School Board
  • 10:00 – 12:00 – ” Maintaining Professional Boundaries” Boundary violations can lead to serious repercussions. This workshop will assist participants in examining the working relationships between students and educational workers. Through examination of case studies and active discussion, the legal and professional implications of crossing boundaries will be reviewed.Presenter: Wendy Hirschegger, OSSTF
  • 1:00 – 2:30 – “On Thin Ice” This workshop addresses the various complaints made against teachers by parents, the Children’s Aid Society, police and the Ontario College of Teachers. The emphasis is on prevention and early assistance to minimize the negative impact on teachers. The workshop includes presentations of actual situations;explanations pertaining to what teachers can do to avoid false allegations, what to do if they find themselves under investigation, and how to maintain appropriate professional boundaries.Presenter: Mary Lachapelle, OECTA
